Out With the Old, In With the New!
Just launched a brand new website today for Northwest Fire Suppression. We’d been in conversations for months, first with a free assessment where I gave the CEO a head’s up that their old asp-based site had a lot of issues including potential security vulnerabilities. Turns out, several months later, the site was actually hacked into and invisible spam links were injected into the code on every page. Google was not too happy with it either…a “this site may be hacked” warning was showing up next to their link on all the search results pages. Yikes!
Since the old site technology was pretty outdated they decided it was time to make the commitment to a new look and a WordPress site with the Genesis framework. The site is being hosted on GoDaddy Ultimate WordPress hosting which runs regular malware scans and does daily backups so if the unthinkable ever happens again (unlikely) the site can easily be cleaned and restored in a few minutes.
Besides outdated technology (the slideshow on the main page of the site used flash which was causing error messages) the old site was not mobile-friendly and they also wanted a more modern layout with pages and a blog they could easily update themselves. To support their efforts there’s a great suite of video tutorials and contextual audio-visual help files built right into the admin area of the website so staff members can learn at their own pace. (Those videos have made my job SOOOO much easier…everyone loves them!)
